Collection: Greek Coins

The coinage of Ancient Greece 6th-1st C B.C are some of the most visually striking coins to come from the ancient world.

These coins were not just a way to buy and sell but for the city-states of Ancient Greece to show off their culture and artistic talents.

The most famous city-state, Athens, rose to be the dominant power of the Mediterranean and beyond, during the 5th century B.C. Numismatists and hobbyist collectors still cherish the Athenian Owl tetradrachms, which at the time became the first internationally recognised currency.

This collection will also contain coinage from Alexander III of Macedon who ruled from 336-323 BC. His reign saw the expansion of an empire stretching from Greece to India, an unbelievable achievement for a man of only 20 years-old in 336 B.C. He made a long lasting impact on the history of the world, inspiring future leaders such as Julius Caesar.
