Roman 193-476 A.D Coins

Commodus, predominantly known for the hit film Gladiator, sadly was the start of an exceptionally lengthy list of emperors. The years between 193 A.D and the fall of Rome, by the hands of the German Chieftan Odoacer in 476 A.D, saw unstable ruling and currency debasement. Faith in the empire gradually diminished. Notable moments, historically and numismatically, led to this era having some of the most interesting Roman coinage. Such as, the turn away from Paganism to Christianity enacted by Constantine I ‘The Great’. Furthermore,  during the formation of the tetrarchy, the Empire split its' governance into east and west with each having an Augustus and a Caesar, giving us even more coin to cherish.
